Process Metrix- Laser Contouring System

• 8,000 Points per second.  

Filtering software :

•  Data is processed using a 3-Dimensional triangle mesh. 
•  Extensive filtering that eliminates spurious data due to dust, dirt or sparks in the vessel.    See the example of the filtering below.

Access to all data :

•  While multiple measurements of a vessel are made, the data is “stitched” or combined    together to present the overall profile of the vessel. 
•  Once the data is combined, an average profile line is drawn through all the raw data that    represents the measured profile.
•  After all components of the system (range finder, inclinometers, etc.) have been    calibrated, the average profile line will overlay on the raw data perfectly.
•  If uncalibrated,the average profile line will not overlay the data. 
•  This is a key indicator of problems with the measurement.
•  The software allows the user to view the raw data, the average profile line, or both. In    this way, the customer can immediately see if there is a problem and where.

Measurement & Speed :

•  The tracking system measures the (X,Y) and Heading of the mobile cart and locates the    position of the cart in 10 seconds.  
•  One can scan an entire vessel in 6 minutes. 
•  The record is held at Great Lakes Steel in Detroit where the vessel was  scanned  in 4    minutes! 
•  The system does not require the vessel to be tilted at any specific angle, and the    operator does not have to set up any special positioning hardware prior to    measurement.    
•  In addition, the tracking system gives the user more flexibility in cart position. 
•  For example, if there is significant wear in the trunion area of the converter, these    regions should be measured frequently.  If there is much skull in the vessel mouth, the    operator may not be able position the mobile cart correctly to measure the trunion area.     If this is the case, the  software will quickly alert the operator to the regions of the    furnace which have not been measured, and the cart can quickly be moved to a new    location that brings the trunion region into view. 
•  In this respect, the tracking system brings not only speed but data accuracy and    certainty as well.

Inclinometer use :

•  The LCS system includes an inclinometer that measures the rotation of the converter.  
•  The inclinometer communicates with the mobile cart using a radio link, and automatically    enters the converter tilt angle. 
•   Using the inclinometer, quick  multiple measurements (if needed to expose skulled areas     in the converter) can be made at the measured converter tilt.

Long-life batteries : The LCS cart battery system will power the cart for 3+ hours with battery. 

Fan less computer :

•  A fanless computer with wireless communication capability and a Core 2 Duo processor. 
•  The computer is fast and completely dust proof. 
•  No contamination of the computer’s interior will occur over its lifetime in the mill. 

Efficient mobile cart design :

•  The mobile cart design is  simple, elegant, light weight  and robust and designed to work in     the high ambient temperatures and dust encountered in steel plants. 
•  All internal electronics are mounted on a pull-out electronics tray that facilitates easy     replacement of modular components.

Installation assistance :

• We will assist with installation and commissioning until all parties are satisfied that the   system is working properly and your operators have been trained on the use of the   system.

Prior experience :

•  Process Metrix has a large installed base of mobile carts including a  robotically controlled    system for EAF monitoring that automatically provides thickness data to the gunning    computer for closed-loop control of EAF gunning practice. 
•  Systems to large number of  users in China and Korea and the United States. 
•  Thus, we have an extensive experience base that allows us to solve all of the customers    needs.
•  Provision for  representation of the thickness data,  to the needs of the mill. Also provide    special data output options as per requirement..

Software Language : LCS software is translated into local language.

Local Service : Service technicians receive extensive training from Process Metrix both  locally and in the United States where technical training seminars are held periodically.
